25th Aug Current “Evening Star” Witches loanee and Coventry asset Rory Schlein endured a difficult return to his parent club as the Witches faded after a bright start in the early evening televised match at Brandon Stadium.
After taking an early commanding lead a combination of determined home riding and bad luck contrived to ensure the Witches 13-5 had whittled away to a two point deficit after heat 11.
The Witches however showed their mettle and a dramatic 4-2 in heat 14 from Robert Miskowiak and the excellent Chris Schramm ensured the Witches had restored the narrowest of leads with the final heat remaining.
A tense heat 15 followed with the unbeaten, at this stage, Hans Andersen forced to the back at a tough first corner. He eventually muscled his way past Witches No 1 Piotr Swiderski on the second lap but team mate Jarek Hampel held his nerve under intense pressure from Andersen, whilst at the same time putting race leader Chris Harris under huge pressure also. In the end Hampel clung to second place to secure the draw and ensure that the Witches didn’t leave Brandon empty handed.
