A Plant Tigers win on the day but Ryan Fisher secures trophy win for Monarchs
There was disappointment for the A-Plant Tigers on Sunday afternoon as a last heat decider gave the Monarchs the opportunity to regain the Spring Trophy and they duly did so with Ryan FIsher taking the honours. Although the Tigers won on the day, they were unable to overturn a 6 point deficit from the first leg, despite being 12 points ahead with two heats to go.
In a heartbreaking finale, an 8-1 gave the Monarchs hope and then going into the last heat, the Tigers needed a heat advantage, but a rocket gate from Ryan Fisher took him clear of the field and on to victory.
Speaking after the meeting, Co-Promoter Alan Dick was disappointed to have lost out on the trophy:
“It would have been nice to keep the trophy on the mantlepiece but it is not to be. Over the two legs there was not an awful lot between the two sides and it came down to the very last heat and sadly we did not manage to gain the upper hand in it. I don’t believe we quite clicked as well as we did last week, especially from the gate, and I think that is where we lost it, but that is the purpose of these meetings, to get everything ready for the Premier Trophy and League and we now turn all our attentions towards the two meetings with Newcastle next week.”
