Ray Palmer RIP

Our thoughts are with the family of Ray Palmer who sadly passed away recently. His sister has asked that we post the following message to all Glasgow Tigers fans.

Good evening my brother Ray Palmer was a rider back in the late 80s, the last time he rode for the Glasgow Tiger’s was on a practice run 25.04.1986 when he had a serious bike accident.

Ray had fond memories of the times he spent in the UK sadly he passed away aged 48 years old 30.10.2011.

Ray requested that if anything ever happened to him that we would write and let the club know as the support and cards and well wishes from the fans in April 1986 were over whelming to this day Ray has kept each and every card.

I was Ray’s sister I have read the messages from the warm and caring fans I would like to personally thank all those who sent well wishes to him.

Sadly missed by all Ray the rocket Palmer

Heathersfield Golden Helmet - winner James McBain

Local boy makes good as James McBain claims the Heathersfield Golden Helmet and George Beaton Memorial Trophy with a faultless display

Dance & Heathersfield News

And so we are forced to bring down the curtain on one of the most successful seasons in the history of the A-Plant Tigers. The final weekend will see on Saturday night the Annual Diner Dance at the Crowwood Hotel where the end of season awards will be dished out. Just who will take the Home and Away Rider of the Year trophies.

On Sunday we have our last on track action when the Heathersfield Golden Helmet takes place at Ashfield starting at 3.00pm (please remember clocks go back on Saturday night/Sunday morning). There is a sufficient number of youngsters who have agreed to take part so we will have our final action on track this weekend.

It will bring to an end the best season of the Ashfield era - now time to start thinking about 2012!

The Final Act

It is the final act of the 2011 Senior season at Ashfield this afternoon as the Scottish Cup comes to its conclusion. The first leg on Friday ended up with the Monarchs leading by 12 points setting up nicely the second leg this afternoon. The good news from the Tigers perspective is that David Bellego is fit to race and will take his place in the line-up at number 6 with Shane Parker once again guesting for Joe Screen. he Tigers will operate rider repalcement for Michal Rajkowski.

This will of course be the final meeting in his career for Parker as he brings the curtain down on one of the finest racing careers of the modern time. He served 6 years as a Tiger and is certainly one who has entertained up and down the land and we all wish him well in his retirement.

Obviously we are keeping a close eye on the weather and it is hoped that it does not spoil this occasion. There is no date to rerun this meeting as the Monarchs are away on tour next weekend and will be at Workington next Sunday ruling out any chance of that date being used next week. Every attempt will be made to run the meeting today although at present conditions are fine and everyone is hopeful of ending the season in style as the Tigers aim to pull back the 12 point advantage that Edinburgh have built up.

At present we have no news from the Edinburgh camp as to their team line up for this afternoon with a blank listed at number 6 and no news as to the fitness of Matthew Wethers after his unfortunate fall on Friday.

The referee for the meeting is Stuart Wilson.

Trophy Presentation

The Trophy presentation will take place on Sunday. It has been 17 years since the team last had the chance to lift some serious silverware so this should be a special occasion for Tigers fans.

As such there will be a grand firework display to round off the season and plenty champagne too!

Oh, add in the fact that we are racing two meetings with Newport, potentially in the best form of any team at the moment, and you can see this should be quite an afternoon.

And just to add in one other bit of news, just see who will guest for Joe in the Scottish Cup ties next week!!

A comprehensive double over Scunthorpe and Somerset allied to a Workington defeat at Rye House secured the title in front of a very noisy Ashfield crowd.

A full press release will be released later this evening!

Raj Update

We are pleased to report that Michal; Rajkowski has been x-rayed in hospital with the news that there are no broken bones in his back. Due to the nature of the fall there is the possibility of some internal damage and he is suffering from a small amount of internal bleeding which is being scanned at the moment.

It is likely he will be kept in hospital overnight for observation and we can look to have him released sometime on Monday.

Michal has asked us to pass on his thanks for all the best wishes that he has received and is delighted to be up for receiving his league medal next week at the Newport meetings.

A further bulletin will be issued early in the week.
