It’s derby day for the Belle Vue Colts this Friday, July 13 with close neighbours Stoke heading to Manchester for the first time this year and only a win will do if the home boys want to stay on top.
Birmingham trail the Cool Running Colts by just a single point in the National League table, while the bigger picture sees the top five clubs trailing the current league leaders by a mere 5 points.
And the Potters will be hoping to take advantage of ex-Belle Vue rider Rob Shuttleworth’s experience around the National Speedway Stadium to help inspire their team to victory.
But the reigning champs are looking to bounce back after emerging from a recent rough patch and are hoping to emulate the performance of the Rentruck Aces to re-establish their home dominance.
Sam Woolley has been called in by the home team to guest in place of star reserve Paul Bowen, who is currently enjoying himself on a pre-booked holiday. The rest of the team lines up as normal.
Club No.3 Kyle Bickley said: “The whole team is so pumped up for this one. We’ve had a couple of disappointing results and the boys are feeling quite eager to set things straight, especially at home.
“We’re not lacking confidence but we are looking for a boost against Stoke. We need to get all the boys firing at the same time but I’m pretty confident we can get back to winning ways against them.
“It’s all about picking up points at every opportunity. Things are pretty close at the top of the table and we’re not as comfortable as we were, but if we can get that momentum back we’ll be rolling.
It’s all systems go for the Rentruck Aces this Monday, July 16 as they prepare to welcome back Steve Worrall for the visit of world champion Jason Doyle and his Somerset Rebels to Manchester.
Tickets for both home fixtures are available online at www.bellevueaces.co and at the stadium box office on race night.
